The 3 piece can body is formed by rolling a rectangular, flat sheet of food-grade tinplate into a cylinder and joining the edges, usually with welding or soldering. The bottom end is then attached with a process called "double seaming" to created a hermetic seal. The top end is then seamed in place after the tin can has been filled.
